Acid-Base TutorialDr. Alan Grogono, former Chairman of Anesthesiology at Tulane is some sort of computer nut, but he is well respected for being an expert in acid-base balance and has lectured extensively on this topic. He has put together the best acid-base teaching site in the world (no, make that the universe). You must check it out! You can also check out his family home page for more computer madness. Email him, he loves the attention. Hyper HeartFrom the University of Utah this is a great animated presentation of cardiac physiology showing relations between blood flow, cavitary pressures and heart sounds. Very Professional!!! It does require you to have "Flash" and "Shockwave" plug-ins for your browser installed. These can be downloaded for free from Macromedia. ECG Learning CenterAlso from Utah is the ECG learning center which has an extensive collection of ECG's. Very nice. Take the on-line quiz, its lots of fun. Interpretation of Pulmonary Function Tests: SpirometryPart of the University of Iowa's Virtual Hospital (what else is there to do out there aside from shucking corn??), this is a very nice presentation of obstructive, restrictive and the really scary upper airway obstruction differential dx (fixed vs. variable) PFT abnormalities that you are likely to be dealing with in preoping your patients at the VA and beyond. Don't forget to check out what is normal and what constitutes an "adequate effort"!. There is also an extensive case quiz section that I double dare you to take!! |
