Anesthesiology

This is the official journal of the American Society of Anesthesiologists. The journal has recently made a big effort towards becoming "web friendly". The master table of contents for the past several years include the abstracts of all of the scientific investigation articles. It also shows which issues have either full text articles (including downloadable .PDF files) or "web enhancements" which can be figures, tables and even video. This is real neat feature. If you have Quicktime (see "Geeky Computer Stuff") on your system, check out this video demonstration of intramyocardial contrast injection during CABG surgery. These guys clearly haven't seen my TEE website since their video is not very good, but hey give them time. You can also view the ASA abstracts from the 1999 annual ASA meeting.

Anesthesia Analgesia

This is the official journal of the International Anesthesia Research Society and the "home" journal for the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (not Kaplan's journal as most people think!). Dr. Miller is the Editor in Chief. "The journal is not as web friendly as Anesthesiology but you can search the table of contents with abstracts of the articles.

Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia

Dr. Kaplans journal has matured over the years with a good balance of original research, clinical review articles and "extras" (i.e. pro/con debates, case conferences, diagnostic dilemma, etc.). Of course being on the editorial board I've got a real conflict of interest! The online site has abstracts and pro/con debates.

ASA Newsletter

Technically not a journal, but there are lots of interesting articles in the ASA newsletter. A recent issue was devoted to cardiovascular anesthesia.
